A Fact Finding Conversation with the California Emerging Technology Fund (CETF), the California Public Utilities Commission (CPUC), and additional civic leaders, local organizations and stakeholders was held in July, 2011. The purpose of the Fact Finding Conversations was to inform attendees of the funding opportunity resulting from the passing of SB 1040, which authorizes the extension and expansion of the California Advanced Services Fund (CASF) established by the CPUC to promote and support broadband infrastructure deployment to unserved and underserved communities. Attendees were encouraged to identify technology/ broadband gaps and work in collaboration to address these gaps. CASF will provide funding to Regional Consortia addressing regional technology/broadband priorities throughout California with the primary purpose of facilitating the most cost-effective use of CASF funds for infrastructure deployment. Please share this information with civic leaders and “anchor institutions” such as schools, colleges, libraries, clinics, hospitals, work source centers, community based organizations, and small businesses in each sub-region.
